Based upon an old B&W photo ( Rita Angus - An Artists Life, Te Papa Press - available from www.RandomHouse.co.nz, This is another tonal study with a twist.

I have created the Background in Black & White. Foreground, Rita and Easel in various Brown hues, with actual painting Portrait in full colour as per original and by definition have included palette.

Rita Angus is by far and away the best female painter of her time in New Zealand, excellent drawing skills and superb painter, her water colours in particular are simply beautiful.

A pioneer of modern painting, Rita Angus emerges as a complex, colourful women - highly articulate, intellectually curious, intense in her emotions, and attitudes and above all dedicated to her art.
